SunFab™-produced solar photovoltaic panels provide superior economics in panel cost, balance of system (BOS) cost, and installation labor cost.
Advantages of 5.7m² Panels
The SunFab thin film line produces the industry’s largest panels, totaling 5.7m² in area (larger than a king-size bed). This large size not only translates to a higher energy output per module, but also directly reduces the cost and time required to deploy a solar farm. With more watts per panel, fewer panels and fewer balance of system components are required for a given-size solar farm. A solar farm built with SunFab panels can be completed 20% faster than one built with conventional thin film panels.
Low Materials Cost
SunFab’s thin film technology combines low-cost, abundant raw materials with Applied’s highly-advanced film deposition technology. The SunFab fabrication process avoids the need for costly electronic grade silicon used in crystalline silicon (c-Si) solar technologies; also avoids use of toxic materials, such as the cadmium, an expensive, rare material in limited supply that is used to manufacture cadmium telluride (CdTe)-type thin film modules.
Installation Cost Savings
When used in a utility scale solar farm, SunFab panels can reduce installation and balance of system (BOS) costs by up to 17%. With fewer panels required for the same power output, fewer clips, brackets, cabling connections are needed than in a conventional installation. In addition, there are overall savings in installation labor costs. For instance, SunFab panels come with low cost, galvanized steel rails, eliminating need for expensive, extruded aluminum vertical rails on mounting structure.
